The AP Newswire reports that Retired Brigadier General Stanley Cherrie has revealed that his years of heavy drinking had grown into alcoholism which nearly killed him. U.S. General fights alcoholism after public collapse

He decided that if he made it through the program, he wasn’t going to hide his disease. He would talk to people about it. Maybe he could help someone who was thinking about seeking help.

Nearly a year later, Cherrie hasn’t had a drink.

As has also been reported, there are innumerable soldiers returning from Iraq or Afghanistan who need to hear this kind of experience, strength and hope.
